Advanced Applications
Our Advanced Applications business within Invensys Operations Management supplies software and solutions which enable the safe and efficient operation of sophisticated manufacturing and power generation facilities. This business uses industry-leading software technology and engineering solutions to help our customers to improve their performance.
ArchestrA®
Our ArchestrA® open-platform software architecture allows system-ready applications to be assembled by using and reusing a set of standard library components, without the need for any scripting or compiling of code. ArchestrA forms the basis of Invensys Operations Management's InFusion capabilities.
ATO
In Invensys Rail, Automatic Train Operation (ATO) is the non-safety part of a train operation system related to station stops and starts.
ATP
In Invensys Rail, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) is the safety system which ensures that trains remain a safe distance apart and have sufficient warning to allow them to stop without colliding with another train.
Avantis
Within Invensys Operations Management, our Avantis® Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution forms the core of our Asset Performance Management (APM) solution set. These maintenance repair and operations solutions provide maintenance management, spares and inventory management and a complete procurement capability.
CBTC
In Invensys Rail Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) is an automated control system for mass transit networks that ensures the safe operation of rolling stock using data communication between various control entities that make up the system. CBTC is a modern successor of the traditional railway signalling systems.
Control and Safety
Our base Control and Safety business within Invensys Operations Management includes our Foxboro DCS and our world-leading Triconex safety and critical control systems.
DCS
A Distributed Control Systems (DCS) is a control system in which the controller elements are not central in location but are split up into separate areas for the major control functions of the plant (for example controllers, batch historians and displays). This helps to increase the efficiency of production: because the controls are not in a single box, one can fail without production ceasing. Because they use a data network rather than hardwired control points parts of a system controlled by a DCS can more easily be upgraded and replaced.
DTG-R
In Invensys Rail and part of the ATP system, Distance-To-Go Radio (DTG-R) is the system measuring where the train is relative to the next train or signal.
EHS
Environmental Health & Safety.
EHS&S
Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability - an Invensys-specific term highlighting our commitment to sustainable business performance.
EMI
Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI), a term which applies to the software used to bring a company's manufacturing-related data together from many sources for the purposes of reporting, analysis and passing data between enterprise-level and plant-floor systems.
Enterprise Control System (ECS)
We are combining all of our technologies into a single Enterprise Control System (ECS). This industry-first system integrates all aspects of plant operations, spanning DCS, safety, decision support, execution and visibility, in much the same way that ERP platforms have done for back office systems. Our InFusion ECS leverages an open architecture to seamlessly integrate the Invensys Operations Management portfolio, as well as third-party offerings provided by our vast ecosystem of partners.
ERP
Where MES informs decisions at the plant level, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) informs decisions for the enterprise, by integrating data and data management across the back office. ERP software ensures that departments are using the same figures for financial and management accounting, business analysis, purchasing, sales and other functions. ERP software is used to improve the quality of information available to business planners.
ERTMS
Part of our Invensys Rail offerings, ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) is the common signalling system established to enable interoperability within Europe. ERTMS is however, rapidly becoming a world standard (i.e. not just within Europe) and is being implemented in suburban and commuter networks too (by Invensys Rail in Madrid and New Zealand) and not just in high-speed lines.
ETCS
Part of ERMTS, the European Train Control System (ETCS) makes it possible to transmit permitted speed information to the train driver and to monitor constantly the driver’s compliance with these instructions.
Eurotherm
Within Invensys Operations Management our Eurotherm branded products are leaders in control, measurement and data recording solutions and services to industrial and process customers.
EYESim
EYESIM™ is a solution linking control room operators to field operators and maintenance operators by means of a high-fidelity process simulation and virtual walkthrough plant environment. EYESIM provides complete plant crew training to improve skills that are safety-critical by enabling operators to perform tasks in a simulated environment, allowing them to react quickly and correctly.
Field Devices and Sensors (also called Measurement and Instrumentation Products)
Field devices and sensors both refer to monitoring devices in production industry. Field devices, including temperature, pressure and flow control valves and analytical instruments, are generally used in continuous process industry, whereas sensors (for example, proximity and positional sensors) are more often found in industries involving assembling products. Field devices and sensors can be connected in a field network, to provide networked production monitoring. Includes Invensys Operations Management's Foxboro® and Foxboro-Eckardt field devices.
Foxboro
Foxboro, an Invensys Operations Management brand, is a leader in measurement and instrumentation products, DCS and SCADA solutions for the industrial automation market.
HMI
Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems provide a graphical representation of how a production process is working - presenting the raw data in a way more suited for a human operator to understand. HMI systems can provide diagnostic information to maintenance personnel, and allow an operator to control the processes it displays.
HVAC
In Invensys Controls, Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning systems.
IM Serv
Our IM Serv brand, part of Invensys Operations Management, is one of the UK leaders in carbon and energy solutions that help organisations in all sectors to save energy, reduce costs, control carbon and be greener.
Industrial Automation
The use of control systems to control and manage industrial machinery and processes, reducing the need for human intervention by automating processes and responses. Industrial Automation solutions help customers to increase process efficiency and profitability, meet statutory and validation requirements and improve their information flow and decision-making capabilities.
InFusion
Our InFusion TM ECS, based on our world-leading Wonderware(R) operations management software, ArchestrA, leverages an open architecture to seamlessly integrate the Invensys Operations Management portfolio, as well as third-party offerings provided by our vast ecosystem of partners.

MES
Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are software solutions aimed at giving plant operators the tools to make manufacturing decisions based on data gathered on the plant floor. So, for example, an MES could tell the plant operators where products made at a certain time had been shipped to, or which batches of raw materials had gone into which finished products. Broader MES applications extend to analysing, planning and optimising production.
