Invensys’ Avantis and SimSci-Esscor units demonstrate software that improves availability and utilization of refinery production assets
Invensys Process Systems is demonstrating its comprehensive asset performance, monitoring, and optimization solutions for refinery assets here today. Invensys will demonstrate how its Avantis maintenance management suite helps refiners improve equipment availability and how SimSci-Esscor plant modeling and optimization, operator training, and process simulation suites improve plant utilization. Invensys industry experts will also present a seminar on refinery planning using rigorous optimization.
“Petroleum markets are more volatile than ever, with product values and energy costs in constant flux. Refiners need the flexibility to synchronize plant operations with market dynamics. This includes the ability to understand and predict asset availability, which we provide through our Avantis solutions, and to analyze and optimize performance according to changing plant and economic conditions, which is what the SimSci-Esscor technologies are all about," said Alastair Fraser, vice president and general manager of Invensys Process System’s SimSci-Esscor unit.
The Avantis solution includes Avantis.DSS decision support software, Avantis.PRO enterprise asset management software, and the Invensys Condition Monitoring solution. These components of the Avantis solution are designed for integrated or independent use in optimizing performance of industrial assets.
The SimSci-Esscor products, ROMeo 4.0, OTS operator training and simulation suite, and PRO/II, its process simulation software, fulfill the utilization role in the asset performance management suite.
ROMeo version 4.0 enables users to employ a focused strategy of data re-use across the full range of simulation applications -- from steady state process design to dynamic simulation and optimization.
The PRO/II process simulation program performs rigorous mass and energy balances for a wide range of processes, enabling new process design, evaluation of plant configuration alternatives, and profitability monitoring.
The SimSci-Esscor training simulator solution, OTS, ensures that capable hands are controlling the plant and effectively utilizing all assets. The training simulations allow operators to stretch the limits of plant capability and evaluate solutions, while remaining in a safe theoretical environment.
Invensys executive, Stuart Parker, will present a paper entitled “Refinery Operational Planning Using Rigorous Optimization”. It will be presented on Tuesday afternoon, March 21st in the Plant Automation Track.
The demonstrations and presentation are part of the two day annual meeting sponsored by the National Petroleum & Refiners Association, in a program which unites key executives and technical experts from the refining industry.
