TOTAL Bitumen turns to Invensys for major DCS upgrade
Posted 09 July 2007TOTAL Bitumen turns to Invensys for major DCS upgrade
Invensys Process Systems has won a major contract to supply a modern Foxboro
I/A Series DCS system to TOTAL Bitumen for its site in Preston, England.
The Preston plant converts heavy oil feedstock into various grades of bitumen
for use in advanced road surface coatings and roofing materials.
As part of an HSE upgrade at the site and to meet the need for a platform that
would allow expansion into other plant areas and improved data management, TOTAL
Bitumen decided to replace its ageing plant PLCs with an entirely new automation
system housed in a new central control building.
Invensys Process Systems won the contract with its plan to migrate the existing
PLCs onto a new Foxboro mesh network-based I/A Series automation system. This
new system will oversee activities such as oxidation, kegging, blending, storage,
and rail offloading.
Although Invensys Process Systems has a presence at other TOTAL sites in the
UK and abroad, this is the first installation at the Preston site. The contract
includes training for operators, maintenance and engineering staff and will
be implemented by Projen, resident site E&I contractor for TOTAL.
