Invensys Process Systems was recognized by RasGas Company Limited (RasGas)
as one of three key vendors contributing to the successful completion of the
RasGas Phase 1 Expansion Project at the RasGas Contractor Awards Dinner held
at the Four Seasons Hotel, Doha, Qatar on March 19, 2007. During the ceremony,
RasGas Managing Director, Dr Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, presented Invensys with
a beautiful appreciation award trophy inscribed, “Presented to Invensys
Process Systems for Highly Valued Contributions to the Completion of the RasGas
Phase 1 Expansion Projects 2001-2007.” Accepting the award for Invensys
Process Systems were KL Tan, Vice President, Asia Pacific Operations, and Bill
Hunt, Qatar Country Manager.
The RasGas Phase 1 Expansion Project included the design, construction, and
commissioning of RasGas LNG Trains 3, 4, & 5 and Offshore Platforms; with
a total investment of approximately US $4 billion. Invensys supplied state-of-the-art
technologies and fully engineered control and safety solutions to meet the demands
of the largest operating LNG Trains in the world. The system components include
Foxboro Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Triconex Safety Instrumented Systems
(SIS), and Triconex Fire and Gas (F&G) protection systems.
Earlier this month, RasGas announced the launch of RasGas LNG Train 5, which
represented the conclusion of the Phase 1 Expansion Project. Train 5 is one
of the world’s largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production units with
a production capacity of 4.7 million tonnes per annum (Mta) of LNG. Construction
of the LNG liquefaction plant was completed in 28 months, and like its predecessor
Train 4, was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. Additionally, Train
5 was built with an outstanding safety record.
In December 2006, Invensys announced that it had also been awarded an automation
contract for the RasGas LNG Trains 6 and 7 onshore expansion project. With an
annual LNG capacity of 7.8 Mta each, Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company
(3), (RL 3), Trains 6 and 7 will clearly be among the world’s largest
LNG trains. When both new mega trains come on line by the end of 2008 and 2009,
respectively, the RasGas LNG complex, located in Qatar’s Ras Laffan City,
will be the world’s largest. The Invensys automation systems installed
at the RasGas LNG complex (which also include the systems supplied for the Trains
1 and 2 projects in 1996), represent Invensys’ single largest base of
systems installed in an LNG complex as well as the worlds largest integrated
DCS network ever installed in an LNG plant.
