Westinghouse successfully completes Christmas commissionings
Posted 27 January 2006Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited (WRSL) successfully completed two major
commissioning projects over the Christmas period, on the East Coast Main Line (ECML)
and the London Underground’s Jubilee Line.
In the Peterborough area of the ECML, WRSL completed the fourth phase of the
introduction of computer-based control systems to replace the existing TDM
systems.
On 22nd December, work began at Holme, Huntingdon, Sandy and St Neots to install
the company’s WESTCAD system and following the successful completion of final
trials, control was changed over to WESTCAD control and handed back on schedule
on the 27th and 28th December.
The company is scheduled to complete the fifth and final phase of the
commissioning programme at the end of January, switching Everton Level Crossing
and Offord Level Crossing from TDM to WESTCAD control.
On the London Underground, the company undertook an intensive programme of work
to support the introduction of a seventh car to each of the Jubilee Line trains;
this was carried out during a suspension of services between Boxing Day and 30th
December inclusive.
WRSL’s primary area of work involved the conversion of 17 Platform ATO
Communicator (PAC) necessary to allow the seven car operation. This work was
carried out at 11 different locations and following trial operation was
successfully completed and in service ahead of schedule on 29th December.
