Westinghouse successfully completes Christmas commissionings

Posted 27 January 2006

Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited (WRSL) successfully completed two major commissioning projects over the Christmas period, on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) and the London Underground’s Jubilee Line.

In the Peterborough area of the ECML, WRSL completed the fourth phase of the introduction of computer-based control systems to replace the existing TDM systems.

On 22nd December, work began at Holme, Huntingdon, Sandy and St Neots to install the company’s WESTCAD system and following the successful completion of final trials, control was changed over to WESTCAD control and handed back on schedule on the 27th and 28th December.

The company is scheduled to complete the fifth and final phase of the commissioning programme at the end of January, switching Everton Level Crossing and Offord Level Crossing from TDM to WESTCAD control.

On the London Underground, the company undertook an intensive programme of work to support the introduction of a seventh car to each of the Jubilee Line trains; this was carried out during a suspension of services between Boxing Day and 30th December inclusive.

WRSL’s primary area of work involved the conversion of 17 Platform ATO Communicator (PAC) necessary to allow the seven car operation. This work was carried out at 11 different locations and following trial operation was successfully completed and in service ahead of schedule on 29th December.
