Invensys EYESim Immersive Training Solution Wins Prestigious Breakthrough Product Award from Processing Magazine

Invensys Operations Management, a global provider of technology systems, software solutions and consulting services to the process and manufacturing industries, today announced that that its advanced SimSci-Esscor® simulation technology, EYESim™ immersive training solution, has been selected as a Breakthrough Product of 2009 by Processing magazine.

“The Breakthrough Product of the Year Award recognizes those products, services and/or technology that have made significant contributions in the process industries within the past year, and are expected to greatly impact the industry for years to come,” said Dennis Van Milligen, associate publisher and editor in chief, Processing magazine. “Because of advances like the EYESim solution, the Breakthrough Product of the Year has become one of the most distinguished and well-respected awards in the industry.”

The EYESim solution merges virtual reality technologies with high-fidelity process simulation, control system emulation computer-based maintenance management and documentation management applications to provide a highly realistic and safe training environment for improving operational efficiency and skills for process plant personnel.

“SimSci-Esscor advanced simulation technologies, like the EYESim solution, can help bring about a more sustainable future, as well as solve pressing industry issues,” said Maurizio Rovaglio, Ph.D. and head of innovation and emerging technologies for Invensys Operations Management. “Not only can this solution be used to develop confidence in new eco-friendly power sources, like commercial-scale integrated gasification combined cycle—IGCC—plants, it can be used to train operators on new systems, as well as train new or younger operators and engineers in a real-time, immersive environment, helping processors and manufacturers retain and replenish the specialized knowledge they need to improve their operations.”

Among the organizations to employ the innovative solution is the United States Department of Energy. Invensys was selected by the DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory to provide a dynamic process simulator with EYESim technology for an integrated gasification combined cycle plant with carbon capture, helping to develop new clean-coal power plants that produce environmentally friendly electric power.
