Westinghouse Rail Systems Awarded Evergreen 2 Signalling Contract

Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited (WRSL) has announced that it has entered into a contract with Carillion Construction Limited (CCL) for the design, supply and installation of signalling equipment for the Evergreen 2 project.

The project, which spans 20 months, will involve the equipment for the Chiltern line from Bicester North to Marylebone Station, where two new platforms are being added.

The upgraded signalling and additional platform capacity will allow up to 20 trains per hour to run in to, or out of, Marylebone Station at peak times – an increase in capacity of almost 50%. In addition, significant enhancements will be realised on the line, including a line-speed increase from 40 to 75mph through Beaconsfield.

WRSL’s project manager, David Attmere, said: “As WRSL were involved in the first phase of the Evergreen project, we are naturally delighted to have been selected to work on the next stage of this major infrastructure scheme.

“The scheme poses a number of interesting management and technical challenges that often arise when work encompasses a London Terminus; however, we are looking forward to working closely with CCL to develop robust technical solutions to meet the needs of the programme.”

Project work commenced on 10 January 2005, with completion scheduled for the December timetable in 2006.
